A senior, client-facing role focused on the offensive side of AI in investment management: where it adds genuine edge, and the data, research and operating architecture that delivers it.
Caldworth is a founding-stage firm, and this is a founding-team role. The salary below is the cash side. Founding members also help shape the firm and share in how it is built, including its ownership.
The role
You will help asset managers, hedge funds and wealth firms find and build their AI advantage. Working with CIOs, heads of research and data leaders, you will design the architecture, target the alpha and research applications worth pursuing, and make the build-or-buy calls that separate a real edge from an expensive subscription.
What you will do
- Design AI target operating models and maturity roadmaps for investment firms.
- Shape investment data and signal architecture, the foundation layers where proprietary advantage originates.
- Identify where AI adds genuine edge across research, portfolio construction and execution, and where it does not.
- Lead foundation-model, vendor and build-or-buy strategy.
- Translate strategy into a plan the client's own teams can run.
What we look for
- Around five years or more in investment research, quantitative strategy, data, or investment technology.
- A real grasp of how alpha is generated, and a clear view of where AI helps and where it does not.
- Strategic fluency in AI systems and data architecture. No coding required, but you must understand the stack well enough to challenge it.
- Credibility with CIOs, portfolio managers and data leaders.
CFIA charterholders are strongly preferred. Candidates who do not hold the CFIA may be expected to obtain it within 12 months. The Chartered Financial Intelligence Architect (CFIA), administered by the ICFDT, is the chartered designation for AI in investment management, spanning strategy, data and architecture, alpha and governance. Caldworth uses the CFIA body of knowledge as a professional baseline for advisory work involving AI strategy, data architecture, alpha research, and governance in investment management.
Why Caldworth
You will shape strategy you actually believe in, with no incentive to push a particular tool or platform. The work is senior, varied, and close to where investment edge is won or lost.
Compensation
$185,000 to $260,000 base, plus a performance bonus. London roles are paid in pounds at comparable levels.
